Loss Prevention Investigator

Reporting to the Loss Prevention Manager, the investigator, as part of the investigation unit, is responsible for coordinating and conducting investigations into merchandise losses, fraud, and internal or external theft. They oversee operations, analyze discrepancies and expenses, verify security processes, and prepare investigation reports. Their role is to protect the organization’s assets by identifying irregularities, collecting evidence, and recommending corrective measures to reduce risks and strengthen compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
Coordinate asset protection activities with the organizational loss prevention unit;
Monitor operational merchandise losses and conduct investigations to prevent merchandise loss by reviewing loss reports from all store areas and departments;
Conduct in-store audits based on the prioritization of loss reports;
Analyze labor expenses and carry out investigations to prevent losses related to poor practices or fraud within stores;
Verify unjustified or fraudulent expense accounts across all stores;
Detect any violations of store policies and criminal activities that may lead to necessary investigations (video reviews, report analysis, etc.);
Investigate any allegations of fraud or other illegal activities; intervene and propose remediation plans for any security breaches;
Conduct investigations into internal and external theft to manage all types of inventory losses (internal theft, external theft, operational errors);
Prepare investigation and incident reports;
Gather evidence, collect statements, and produce reports while assisting other investigative entities as needed;
Analyze and follow up on alarm-related irregularities.
Key requirements include:
College Diploma or Certificate in Private Security and Investigation, Law Enforcement, or a related field;
3 to 5 years of relevant experience in loss prevention or asset protection within the retail industry;
Ability and willingness to travel between store locations as required;
Training or certification in Industrial or Corporate Security is considered an asset;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook);
Strong analytical thinking and autonomy;
Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment;
Proactive and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving;
Ability to work under pressure and adapt to a constantly changing environment.
LOCATION: This position is based in Ren’s Pets home office located in Puslinch, Ontario, with a requirement to work in the office 1-3 days per week and flexibility to work from home. Occasional travel to store locations, Distribution Centers or other offices may be required.
